Traditional hazel fencing

Wattle hurdles, river restoration, hedge laying and hazel fencing are country crafts which have been passed down over five generations of Parsons & Sons.

Hurdle making is the traditional rural craft of making a wattle fence out of hazel withies. Bespoke hazel fencing can be used for many different purposes, from animal enclosures to the walls of houses using wattle and daub. The almost forgotten craft of hurdle making has been passed down from father to son in the Parsons family and spans over five generations, ensuring that none of the specialist techniques, secrets or pride in the craft are lost.

Neil’s passion for hurdle making began from a young age when he was taught the unique craft by his father. Following in his father’s footsteps, Neil’s deep-rooted desire to deliver meticulous craftsmanship and an unquestionable passion for the countryside, country life and all things outdoors is what separates Parsons & Sons from the rest.

Neil prides himself on protecting wildlife whilst keeping traditional crafts alive.

From Sheffield to London, Cornwall to Winchester, Parsons & Sons have delivered their hurdle-making expertise both locally and further afield in projects spanning the country.

Made traditionally with sustainable British hazel, Parsons & Sons pride themselves on ensuring these sought after country crafts are cherished across the country.

Although based in Salisbury, Wiltshire, no request is too much trouble for Parsons & Sons and they are happy to travel to any location.

Depending on the project, Parsons & Sons can also offer a courier service to deliver items within a short timescale across numerous locations.

Parsons & Sons are also highly skilled in an array of additional country crafts, including woodland management and conservation. As well as the wood crafts of wattle hurdles and hedge laying, they also frequently carry out river restoration work and are happy to offer their expert knowledge to help fulfil your individual requirements.
